American Idol now has its very first male country singer as their winner – 17-year-old Scotty McCreery has taken the title to become the Top 10 winner over 16-year-old Lauren Alaina.
The youngsters looked extraordinarily nervous as they awaited the result, then broke out into laughter as Ryan Seacrest received the official results envelope.
Scotty doubles over at the news then is promptly surrounded by his fellow top twelve to celebrate.
Finally Seacrest gets to Scotty for his reaction to the win – and it’s exceedingly sweet. Scotty says it’s been a year since he and Lauren tried out, they’ve been together ever since and they’re going to stay together (a statement that will definitely the rampant teenage romance rumor mill churning). Then, in typical Scotty fashion, he thanks the Lord for getting him.
Humble class all the way – what a great kid.
Only downside is that Scotty’s single isn’t the greatest as he always sounds flat and off-pitch when singing “I Love You This Big.”
Oh well, hopefully his second single will be better.
