Last night the 11 finalists performed hits by music legend Elton John; tonight, following performances by Idol winner Fantasia Barrino, and will.i.am and Jamie Foxx, two of the 11 will be eliminated and the nine finalists will move on to week five.

You won’t have to break the bank to go to Houston; the city was named one of the top 10 value destinations! Many musical talents originated in Houston, from ZZ Top to Kenny Rogers. It’s hot in Houston!
 
Auditions
Auditions will be held at Reliant Park. Registration will occur August 24 and August 25. Auditions will occur August 26.Wristbands will be distributed from approximately 7:00 AM on Wednesday, August 24, until approximately 8:00 AM on Friday, August 26. Auditioners will not be permitted to camp out. Once auditioners obtain their wristbands, they will be asked to return to Reliant Park by 5:00 AM on Friday, August 26.Check in for Affiliate winners is BY 7:00AM at the registration desk on Audition day. You must have your letter AND I.D. WITH you. If you cannot locate the AI Registration Desk, check with American Idol Security or an American Idol Staff member (in the AI t-shirts) for the exact location if you cannot find it.
Transportation
Although Houston is known for its busy freeways, there are plenty of ways to travel without a car. The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) provides public transportation via buses, light rail, and lift vans. The Sunset Limited Amtrak train takes passengers from Los Angeles to New Orleans with many stops in between, including Houston, in the northern part of downtown. The largest airport in Houston is George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), and you can also fly commercially to William P. Hobby Airport (HOU).

Sightseeing

You won’t be bored in Houston! The largest city in Texas has an active nightlife, tasty cuisine, amusement parks, great shopping, many museums, and plenty of parks. Known as Space City, visit Houston’s Space Center and experience simulators, watch footage on enormous screens, and see what it’s like to be an astronaut. Save $5 per ticket to Space City by buying your tickets online. Houston has a great theater district in the center of downtown Houston where you’ll find Bayou Place: an entertainment complex with restaurants, movies, plazas, and parks. Summer is the season for baseball, so scope out a Houston Astros game. After working up an appetite at auditions, venture out and dine on Tex-Mex cuisine or have a meal at a steakhouse.

New Kelly Clarkson single to debut Aug. 30; album coming in October

Kelly Clarkson will release her fifth album, Stronger, Oct. 25, with a single coming at the end of this month. 

The first American Idol champion will debut Mr. Know It All, the album's first single, Aug. 30 and  Mr. Know It All will go on sale digitally Sept. 5.

'American Idol' returns Jan. 22, with all three judges

So now it's officially official. Fox has announced that Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson will return to the judges' panel for the 11th season of American Idol.

The show, with Ryan Seacrest doing the hosting duties as always, will premiere
Jan. 22. at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT), immediately following the NFC Championship Game on Fox.
Auditions take place in Houston on Aug. 26.

'Idol' auditions, a telethon and a new show?

Guess what? Season 11 of American Idol is going to have the best talent ever. At least that's what the judges indicated during a press conference at call-back auditions in Savannah, Ga., yesterday. "You saw the show last year and saw the talent," judge Jennifer Lopez said. "People this year have to be better than that. We've found a few in Savannah." Was there ever any doubt?

• Even though the judging panel's intact, Jennifer did consider leaving Idol after one season. "I got a little bit tired at the end with everything going on in my life at the time," she says.
• American Idol will have a major presence at this year's MDA Labor Day Telethon. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe will be one of the telethon's co-hosts. Jordin Sparks will appear on the show, as will all three judges.
• Speaking of Nigel Lythgoe, he's in talks with CW to create a singing competition for that network that's being compared to a next-gen Partridge Family. I think I love it.
• James Durbin is recording a song called Stand Up, but it won't be for his record.
